My place to discuss game related stuff, as a gamer and developer.

Making peace with all neutral is way too much OP'ed. Godmode.

Why don't you make 'truce amongst rogues' an 8 level tech, in that:

Each level enables you to make a permanent peace treaty with a single planet at most <tech level> jumps from capital.

So, at level 1 you can make peace with 1 planet 1 jump away from your capital.

At level 2 you can make peace with another planet up to 2 jumps away from your capital.

At level 3 you can make peace with another planet up to 3 jumps away from your capital.

And so on until level 8.

Making peace with the pirates would only be possible at level 7 or 8, and would render you immune to pirate raids.

Interesting idea. Drastic change so they may not do it

on Mar 14, 2012

so even at its new tier it is not punishable by another player?

on Mar 14, 2012

good idea, lower tech level.  I'd say tech level 5-6 would be  better, make people pay a lot to acquire it early so that they have a larger window of vulnerability before their planets start to make a profit.

You forget that this is TEC we are talking about. Regardless of faction TEC always had that early eco advantage so I doubt that wouldn't matter too much.

well that advantage has shifted relative to the other races with the increased cost of trade ports.  The other races could have cheaper trade ports to counter balance the TEC early advantage(we shall see).

The thing is having 5-6 eco labs in the beginning will substantially hamper your early expansion rate and also, the cost of the tech itself will cost a lot in crystal, which is usually in short supply. These labs will be taking up logi slots, so your trade ports/broadcast centers will be limited.

This would mean early expansion would have to follow a regular playstyle.  When the mid game comes around you will have the advantage as the rebels to start rapidly colonizing the interior (usually resource rich) middle of the maps to gain the long term economic advantage.

In this way you would limit the extreme effectiveness of truce among rogues while not limiting it too much.

trade port cost has gone up. anyone notice?

on Mar 14, 2012

I would suggest that once you get the tech, you have to send a diplomacy ship there and keep it there to enforce the peace.  One thing I don't like now is once you have the tech, they are all friendly and I cannot colonize their planets that they have settled on.

or blow up their turrets and replace them.

proof Pbhead doesn't really read the posts on threads he responds to.

uhh huh. sure.  ya i didnt notice that line. so sorry. where the hell did i piss you off btw?

...

Truce among rogues is now tier 4, with 3 prereqs.  and something tells me that you hadnt played an online game with the new adjusted balance.  when you posted. I havent either.  so. how about we complain about how op it is after we verify that people can abuse it just as hard now as before.

...

but here is something you definatly didnt notice.  Trade ports take longer to spawn tradeships now. And killing trade ships grants more money than before.

You didn't piss me off, I thought this was funny.  If I can find a way to have you upgrade your QA on your posts it will do all of us forum types a service.

So far pbhead i've been playing online in the beta as Carpetbomb with 12 games played, 10 victories and 2 minidumps.  Your assumption that i'm talking without knowledge is unfounded.  Get online so that our competative natures can really get a bearing on one another.

The increased cost of trade ports is noticable and it is far more difficult for a TEC player to ECO on the front lines because of this.

This goes a long way in maintaining faction balance, even though we haven't witnessed the other factions yet.

Personally I don't like the jumps away from your home planet idea. By the time you get that far it would not be near as useful. Maybe like a level 2 or 3 tech that would apply to the planets within a system.

on Mar 14, 2012

I asked about how many games you have played SINCE THE PATCH, at 3:41 PM this afternoon EST.

nice question dodgings.

I sense a bro-down.

Pbhead
and something tells me that you hadnt played an online game with the new adjusted balance

you could have just stated "after the patch".

There have been numerous internal changes, so how was I supposed to know what you meant? Each one of these could qualify as a "new adjusted balance".

You should maintain a higher level of QA on your posts so that you don't allow for such confusion in your dialogue.  Just be happy i'm not picking apart the sentance structure of the sentance I quoted above.

to answer your question, i have only had the opportunity to play one game after the patch.
